Our Story.
2004 to Present
Founded in 2004 by Dr. Tisa Muhammad, A Phoenix Rising Wellness Institute, Inc.™ was launched in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. Today, APRWI, Inc., is a family corporation partnership offering our services and classes in person, onsite and online.
Our Mission
Although our clientele are diverse and made up of various communities, over the years, the focus of our mission has been to provide a unique approach to healing; a new paradigm of educational wellness classes, traditional therapies and wholistic services to predominantly underserved urban communities of the diaspora in North America and the Caribbean Islands.
Our Journey through Wellness....
In 2005, we launched our initial classes with mentor Dr. Llaila O. Afrika in Buffalo, New York, and over the course of those years, provided our educational classes to mainly the underserved communities of predominantly people of color located in neglected, urban locations and environments.

In 2018, the business expanded into a Mother-Daughter duo and has continued to offer services in health and wellness that are unique to our special business model.

A Tribute to My Mentor

My mentor, friend and world-renown healer, Dr. Llaila O. Afrika has transitioned. He will be surely missed. He worked closely with my company, A Phoenix Rising Wellness Institute from 2004 to 2008.
We shared classes in African Wholistic Medicine all over the United States and Canada. He was a blast to be around, very knowledgeable and kind. We will never forget his advice and words of wisdom.

Practitioners of Wellness
Over the years, we have been honored to work with other practitioners like Dr. Paul Goss (Iridology), Yirser Ra Hotep (Yoga Skills), Queen Afua (Sacred Woman), Queen Maasht Am Amen (Womb Dance), Dr. J.C. Williams, and more, providing educational opportunities in various cities with intentions to access our classes without the concern of traveling away from home. Nineteen years later, we are still here and our objectives are the same.
